Daryeel Human Rights Organization Ry (DHRO) held a productive meeting with the Project Coordinator of Nai’s House, a UK-based charity dedicated to youth mental wellbeing and suicide prevention, to explore collaborative programming across Finland, Kenya, and Somalia.

DHRO recently met with Emma Barnes project Coordinator of Nai’s House, an award-winning UK charity focused on promoting mental wellbeing, delivering mental health support, and preventing suicide among young people. The meeting marked an important step in DHRO’s ongoing commitment to expanding culturally responsive mental health programming within the communities it serves.

The discussion centred on identifying concrete opportunities for partnership particularly around mental health awareness campaigns, suicide prevention training, and community-based advocacy targeting diaspora communities in Finland and populations in East Africa, including Kenya and Somalia.

“Breaking the stigma around mental health requires trust, cultural sensitivity, and sustained community engagement values at the core of both organizations.”

Both we spoke openly about the growing demand for accessible, culturally informed mental health support. A shared concern was raised around the barriers many individuals and families face particularly within diaspora and displacement-affected communities in seeking help early or speaking openly about mental health challenges. The conversation highlighted the critical role of education, early intervention, and peer-level engagement in shifting this reality.

The meeting affirmed a strong alignment in values and approach. DHRO and Nai’s House are both committed to ensuring that communities have the knowledge, tools, and support structures needed to address mental health proactively and without stigma.

DHRO welcomes this new partnership connection and is committed to building on this dialogue. Further updates will follow as collaboration discussions progress toward joint programming and shared action.
