Daryeel Human Rights Organization (DHRO) proudly participated in the Protection of Civilians (PoC) Engagements held in Baidoa from 15–19 July 2026 through our Baidoa Focal Point Mr Yussuf Abdirashid .
The engagements were organized by the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC) in collaboration with the Somalia National Army Civil-Military Cooperation (SNA-CIMIC) Unit. The initiative brought together representatives from civil society organizations, community and religious leaders, women, youth, security institutions, United Nations agencies, and humanitarian organizations to discuss practical approaches for strengthening the protection of civilians in Somalia.
Throughout the sessions, participants exchanged perspectives on civilian protection challenges, community perceptions, civilian harm mitigation, and ways to strengthen cooperation between communities, humanitarian actors, and security institutions. The discussions also contributed valuable field-level insights to support the implementation of Somalia’s National Protection of Civilians Policy.
As an independent human rights organization, DHRO values opportunities to engage in constructive dialogue that promotes accountability, protects civilian lives, and amplifies the voices of conflict-affected communities. Our participation reflects our continued commitment to advancing human rights, supporting peacebuilding efforts, and working collaboratively with national and international partners to improve civilian protection across Somalia.
DHRO extends its appreciation to CIVIC, the Somalia National Army Civil-Military Cooperation (SNA-CIMIC) Unit, the Federal Government of Somalia, the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, and all participants for creating an inclusive platform for dialogue and collaboration.
